For the first time, one of the most enigmatic phenomena in Earth’s atmosphere has been captured on high-speed video. “Sprites: A Mysterious Burst of Light,” part of the NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corp.) series “The Cosmic Shore,” features astronauts and AGU scientists investigating this rare, fleeting pillar of lightning that reaches from thunderstorms into space. A screening of this 58-minute film will be followed by a panel of scientists involved in its production. Open to all.
