Where is the 2011 Fall Meeting being held?
The Fall Meeting will be held at the Moscone Center, 747 Howard Street, San Francisco, CA.
Do I have to be a member to attend?
No, but the registration rates are reduced for members.
What is the expected meeting attendance?
We anticipate attendance to exceed 20,000 in 2011.
Abstracts FAQs
Am I automatically registered for the Fall Meeting by submitting an abstract?
No, you must also register to attend the meeting.
When will I receive confirmation of my abstract acceptance?
Acceptance letters were e-mailed on 16 September. The full scientific program will be published the same day.
May I get a refund for my abstract handling fee?
No. Abstract submission fees are nonrefundable processing fees. Once the abstract has been submitted, it is considered processed.
How do I obtain a copy of my abstract submission receipt?
You may obtain a copy of your abstract receipt online. Log in to Abstract Central, http://agu-fm11.abstractcentral.com/, and select the Submission tab at the top right. Next, scroll to the bottom of the page and select the role that the abstract was submitted under; for example, Regular Submission – All Sessions. You will see the control ID and control title. Next to this information is a View Proof button. When you select View Proof, your receipt will appear at the top of a new window with your abstract details below.
What size is my poster board?
Each presenter is provided with a 4 ft high by 6 ft wide poster board. Poster boards have a 2.5 cm (1 in.) frame. Dimensions of the usable work area are 4 ft high by 6 ft wide (1.2 m high by 1.8 m wide).

Can I make changes to my abstract (coauthors, titles, etc.)?
No. Changes to abstracts are not permitted after the abstract submission deadline.
What do I need to withdraw my abstract?
To withdraw your abstract, you should decline your invitation to present your paper in Abstract Central. By declining your invitation to present at the meeting, your abstract will be automatically withdrawn from the program. If you have already accepted your invitation to present, please e-mail AGU Meetings staff at fm-help@agu.org to request that your abstract be withdrawn.
What is the invitation I got by e-mail?
The invitation you received is your acceptance letter and invitation to present at Fall Meeting. You must accept or decline your invitation to present by 11 October.
Hotel FAQs
When can I reserve my hotel room?
Housing is open. You may book your hotel reservation until 1 November subject to availability.
Will AGU Housing charge my credit card to guarantee my reservation?
AGU Housing will not charge your credit card. However, your hotel may charge a deposit of one night’s room and tax as early as three weeks prior to the convention. Deposit amounts may vary. Please refer to the deposit policy on your hotel confirmation.
Will I receive a hotel confirmation?
Yes. A detailed confirmation is automatically e-mailed to you once your reservation has been made.
What is the hotel cancellation policy?
72 hours cancellation notice is required to avoid penalty. If your reservation is canceled less than 72 hours prior to your arrival, you will incur a one night room and tax penalty from your hotel. You can cancel reservations through AGU Housing prior to 21 November by e-mail at AGUHousing@cmrus.com by phone at 800-450-5185 or 415-979-2261, by fax at 415-293-4395, or through the AGU Housing Web site. To cancel reservations after 21 November please contact your hotel directly.

Can I take photographs in the poster hall?
No. Photography is not permitted in the poster hall.
Registration FAQs
Do I have to be a member to attend?
No, but the registration rates are reduced for members. The last day to renew or become an AGU member for 2011 and receive member registration rates is 30 September.
Can I bring a guest?
Yes. Registered attendees may purchase Guest Passes at $25 each. A guest is a spouse, friend, or adult child (18 years or older) who is not working in a geophysical-science-related occupation or field. A colleague or associate working in a related geophysical sciences field or studying geophysics in school may not be registered or attend as a guest. Registered guests may not attend scientific sessions. However, they may go to the Exhibit Hall and attend and purchase tickets to social events at the advertised rate.
What does my registration fee include?
Your registration fee includes access to all AGU oral and posters sessions, lectures, exhibits, town hall meetings, and non-ticketed social events.
What is the cancellation/refund policy?
Written notification of registration cancellations must be e-mailed to agu@experient-inc.com. Registration cancellations received by 1 November 2011 will receive a complete refund. Cancellations received between 2 and 11 November 2011 will have a $30 processing fee deducted from their refund. No refunds will be issued for registrations or ticketed events canceled after 11 November 2011.

Will there be shuttle buses?
No. The 2011 Fall Meeting is going green by eliminating shuttle bus service. Take advantage of the diversity of transportation options, including world-famous cable cars, light rail, buses, and ferries.
